One of my favorite pictures of Jesus
I was pondering Jesus today. Not a bad thing to do. I love thinking about what it must have been like to walk and talk with him. I have been known to spend a few minutes with eyes closed picturing his tone and mannerisms as he taught and interacted with his disciples. A very fun practice that makes me feel close to Christ and challenged by his attributes.
Through all of those times thinking about him, there is one picture that fascinates me. The Bible declares in Mark 12:37 that as Jesus was teaching that the Large crowd, “listened with delight”.
Jesus wasn’t old, stale, and boring. He was alive, engaging, and fun. They listened with delight.
Bright faces all glued on the master. Wide eyes peering as He lovingly, yet convincingly shared truth.
That is a wonderful picture of Jesus. One that inspires me and encourages me.
I would love to hear some of your favorite pictures of Jesus as well.

Growing up I always saw pictures of Jesus holding a sheep. The picture of course was trying to promote His gentleness, His love, and His desire to know us. However, these pictures also gave me a somewhat impression that Jesus was weak, and frail. One day, a few years back, I was in a Christian bookstore, and I saw a statue/figurine. When I saw this statue, it was exactly how I would have pictured Jesus, the One who defeated Satan and conquered death, the One of whom demons feared and trembled at the site of Him. This figurine had a fairly large sized globe. On top of the earth was a throne, that Jesus was sitting on. It showed him with a well groomed beard, very strong, very powerful. And He had 2 lions sitting at His feet. It was probably the most accurate depiction of our Victorious Lord I have ever seen.

I picture Jesus in the midst of His travels as He comes into a town. Through an crowd of people, He sees a beggar sitting by the side of the gates, head bowed down in shame and rejection. He kneels down, and gently lifts the beggar’s head to meet His eyes. His eyes are filled with love and care.
Sometimes I see Him as sitting in a very serene place (a Japanese garden, a forest, or beside a stream), just waiting–desiring to spend time with me.

Have you seen the picture of Jesus holding up the broken man that has a hammer in one hand and a nail in the other? When i think of Christ i see Him loving me no matter what i have done. I also see Him as a very strong man, not just some little weak man. Think about it, He walked everywhere He went and He was a carpenter He had to be huge! and when i think of Him as my protector it is very comforting to know that THE SON OF GOD loves me!!!
